"Towards Academic Excellence: Integrating Pedagogy, Research and Institutional Vision"

Introduction

Faculty Development Programmes (FDPs) have emerged as a vital initiative in empowering educators to meet the dynamic challenges of higher education. By focusing on the enhancement of teaching capabilities, research acumen, and institutional alignment, FDPs play a crucial role in shaping holistic academic professionals. In this spirit, IITM College of Engineering organized a six-day in-house Faculty Development Programme from 21st July to 26th July 2025, under the theme “Towards Academic Excellence: Integrating Pedagogy, Research and Institutional Vision.” The program brought together distinguished speakers, subject experts, and faculty members to foster an environment of learning, collaboration, and professional development.

Objectives

The primary objectives of the FDP were:

  • To enhance teaching competencies and domain knowledge of faculty members.

  • To explore and integrate innovative pedagogy aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP).

  • To promote collaborative research and strengthen faculty contributions to academic literature.

  • To foster institutional commitment and align faculty development with broader academic goals.

  • To encourage peer-to-peer learning and sharing of best practices through discussion groups.

  • To introduce the use of digital and AI-based tools such as Canva for effective content creation and classroom engagement.

Detailed Session Proceedings

Prof. Dr. Monika Kulshreshtha, Director, Institute of Innovation in Technology and Management set a motivational tone by emphasizing the significance of self-motivation and faculty mannerism in fostering organizational growth. Her insights on professional conduct and an educator’s role in institutional development resonated deeply with the participants. She also introduced the guidelines of the National Education Policy (NEP), highlighting its vision for higher education.

Dr. C.P.Chawla, Academic Advisor, IITM, conducted an engaging session on how to make teaching enjoyable and effective for students. He stressed the importance of simplifying complex concepts and creating an interactive classroom environment that facilitates joyful learning.

Special sessions were conducted by specialized faculty members from various departments such as Human Resource Management, Marketing, Information Technology, Finance, Economics, and Research & Analytics. The key highlights included:

  • Exploring domain-specific trends and innovations.

  • Encouraging interdisciplinary collaborations.

  • Practical demonstrations on Canva as an AI-based digital content tool, emphasizing its role in academic presentations and learning materials.

Dr. M.N.Hoda delivered a powerful session on collaborative research, journal indexing, and strategies for strengthening research excellence. He also shared valuable tips on building academic presence through strategic digital content, emphasizing the need for a digital identity in today’s academic world.

Conclusion

The one-week Faculty Development Programme at IITM College of Engineering proved to be an inspiring and transformative experience for all participants. Each session contributed meaningfully to enhancing the pedagogical, research, and institutional capabilities of the faculty. The program successfully highlighted the need for innovative teaching strategies, digital proficiency, and collaborative research in the ever-evolving landscape of higher education. By fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional excellence, the FDP aligned perfectly with the overarching goal of academic excellence and institutional growth. The enthusiastic participation and insightful contributions of the speakers and attendees made this FDP a truly enriching experience, setting a benchmark for future initiatives.
